Abstract
This paper describes a satellite communication system suitable for application in distributed cooperative work. Herein we propose a new method of multimedia data communication, in which voice and video signals are transmitted via allocated SCPC channels, and burst data, via code-division multiplexing (CDM) with random access. The burst data is accumulated in a buffer and is transmitted when satellite transponder excess capacities are available. This burst data is transmitted in the same frequency band as voice and video data. Then, it should be possible to conserve valuable bandwidth resources and alleviate the costs of expensive transponder usage
