Abstract :
Currently available computational tools lack the ability to predict selenoproteins correctly because of the dual function of TGA codons in the open reading frames of selenoprotein genes, where the TGA codons do not act as a stop signal but decoded as a selenocysteine. Previously we developed a method and identified seven selenoproteins from the genome of Anopheles gambiae. However, the update of gene database and the fast growing bioinformatical method require us to improve our already published method for consummate and specificity. Those led to the identification of five selenoproteins genes in the present paper. The updated results on selenoproteins provide us better theoretical guidance for the treatment of malaria in terms of Anopheles gambiae, and the improved method could also be used for the identification of selenoproteins in other species.
