Abstract :
The paper present the experimental experience on specially designed two winding single phase Self Excited Induction Generator (SEIG). That projects some new and interesting physical phenomenon observed therein. The paper present some results on effects of speed, load and load power factor on THD in voltage and current, capacitive VAr requirement for desired voltage, voltage buildup time both under no load and loaded conditions. Some useful observations on series compensated single phase SEIG, magnitude of surge current during terminal short circuiting and voltage collapse phenomenon are also discussed in the paper. These results may help in improved design of such SEIG systems under variable speed and no load conditions encountered in practice.
