Abstract :
A previous analysis using sinusoidal basis functions performed on coated and uncoated conducting bodies is extended to the case of a homogeneous dielectric body of revolution illuminated by an EM wave. This method is demonstrated for the representative case of an incident plane wave impinging upon a dielectric sphere. The currents obtained are contrasted with those of the Harrington and Mautz dielectric moment method formulation and Mie series results. The sphere currents show good agreement with the moment method (both formulations) and the Mie series. In addition, the use of the sinusoids leads to a reduction in the matrix size in excess of 95% percent. The trade-off associated with this gain is that there is an increase in the fill time.<>
