Abstract
An expert-system-based tool called NETPERAD (network performance advisor) for modeling and performance evaluation of communication networks is presented. The application of expert systems in the selection and implementation of the proper performance evaluation technique for computer networks is addressed. An outline of the process of validating such an expert system to increase the developer´s and the end user´s confidence in the tool is provided. The NETPERAD prototype has been completed with the use of the m.1 expert shell. An example of the use of the network advisor with the evaluation of the performance of an integrated voice and data packet-switching computer communications network is given
