Abstract :
A model for hierarchical ISDN which leads to optimal allocation of the channel capacity using realistic constraints and optimization functions is presented. The procedure consists of two phases. In the first, decomposition in which the network is split into a set of subnetworks of just two hierarchical levels takes place. To each subnetwork an optimization model is applied which was developed for networks with two hierarchical levels. In the second phase, composition of the subnetworks takes place in a successive way which leads to the optimal capacity allocation among the end-exchanges of the network
