Abstract
In order to assess gastric motility, a new noninvasive method with Bio-impedance and synchronous electrogastrogram was addressed. Electrical impedance signals (EIP) and electrogastrogram (EGG) were recorded from the healthy control group and the pathologic stomach group. Wavelet transform was employed to separate EIP breath and heart activity signals. The temporal-domain and frequency-domain parameters were studied for these two signals to evaluate gastric motility. There is significance difference in the temporal-domain and frequency-domain properties between two groups, such as rthythms of EGG and EIP, signal power spectrum and dynamic spectrum, the rates of normal rhythms, Frequency Instability Coefficient and so on. The frequency may have sudden changes more markedly over time in abnormal situation. The parameters of the EIP provide useful information regarding gastrointestinal motility and symptoms. Base on the synchronous EGG and EIP, the method will be a new potentially useful tool for the noninvasive assessment of gastric motility.
