Abstract :
Based on parametric snake model, this paper presents orthogonal snake model which retains some of the attractive features of existing methods and overcomes some of their limitations. The basic idea of orthogonal snake model is that any curve can be approximated by a polygon. Its key improvement is establishing the intrinsic relationship between the contour evolution and the intensity variation by computing the relative or absolute changes of intensity along orthogonal line of each side of polygon. Its information processing phase is a closed state. The algorithm is implemented with dynamic programming. The efficacy of this model is demonstrated with several experiments
