  • Abstract
    An angular spectrum technique is employed to determine the electrical output signal spectrum of an ultrasonic transducer in pulse-echo mode, in response to reflections from planar elastic plates of infinite extent. The computation which is performed over an arbitrary band of frequencies, employs the fully diffracted radiated field. By resolving this field into its plane wave components, the interaction with interfaces and plates can be precisely modeled via exact plane wave reflection coefficients. The resulting spectra obtained are valid for interfaces located in both the near and far fields. Arbitrary transducer geometries are encompassed in this method. Of particular importance is the ability to model the change in the output spectrum as a function of the orientation and thickness of the plate
