Abstract :
We examine the metric tensor signatures in two Lorentzian frames of reference. We write the electromagnetic tensor produced by a line charge in its frame of rest. Using the induced fields in the "stationary" system, we compare the resulting magnetic flux density fields of two signatures often employed by various authors. We select the signature (-, +,+,+) as the better of the two because it accounts for the correct sign in magnetic-field expressions. We briefly discuss the disagreement between the above field and the Biot-Savart field when the beta factor is high; and we apply the results to a moving point charge
