Abstract :
This paper presents a fast intra/inter frame coding algorithm. In H.264/AVC prediction, the rate distortion optimization technique with full mode search is used to select the best mode for each macroblock. To reduce the computational load in mode decision, for intra frames discrete wavelet method used to filter low-pass data; for inter frames the intra mode is skipped according to the motion vector distribution feature. Experimental results revealed that the computation time of the proposed fast algorithm is averagely reduced to 52% of the full search method with slight PSNR degradation.
