Abstract :
Summary form only given. We will summarize a two and half year long collaborative study with the NASA Langley Research Center concerning the interactions of a one atmosphere uniform glow discharge (OAUGD) surface plasma with an aerodynamic boundary layer. The previously observed increase in aerodynamic drag and the recent achievement of decreased aerodynamic drag are now understood to be due to paraelectric gas flow acceleration induced by the OAUGDP. The crucial parameters of electrode geometry and RMS voltage were investigated using drag balance measurements, pitot tube profiles, and digital smoke-wire photography.
