Abstract :
This paper examines the performance gains achieved by a wireless local loop system developed by Tadiran Telecommunications, Ltd., using various diversity techniques. The system uses a FH/TDMA scheme with the addition of both frequency diversity and antenna diversity. We examine the theoretical background concerning the gain of the selection diversity mechanism, and perform further calculations and analyses on the data collected in a trial conducted by US WEST in Boulder, CO. We conclude that, in good accordance with theory, 4-6 dB gain can be added to the link budget due to antenna diversity and an additional 10-20 dB due to frequency diversity. The frequency diversity gain is highly dependent on the received signal strength (RSS) and it is uncorrelated with the antenna diversity gain
