Abstract
A study is presented to enhance the efficiency of extracorporeal lithotripsy by tracking the calculus in ultrasonic images. The performances of four tracking techniques are compared in terms of accuracy and processing time. An algorithm based on the mean-normalized correlation and optimized by the log-D step technique is used for real-time implementation. This method is subjected to clinical tests with very promising results
