  • Abstract
An innovative E-simulation model based on E-experiment for misalignment fault detection and diagnosis that are commonly observed in rotating machinery systems has been proposed in this paper. Coupling misalignment is a condition where the shafts of the driver machine and driven machine are not on the same center line. Non-coaxial misalignment may be either due to the parallel misalignment or an angular misalignment or presence of both either in the horizontal or vertical direction. Misalignment is temperature dependent. All materials expand with increase in the temperature and metal is no exception. Motors warm up to several degrees and the driven machine may warm up or cool down from ambient temperature depending on the handling fluid. The experiment presented in this paper explains how a parallel misalignment in a system can be monitored based on vibration spectral analysis. Also, this paper explains how the other two types of misalignments are detected.
