Abstract :
Routing in mobile ad hoc networks is a challenging task due to the mobility of the nodes, the limited bandwidth of wireless links, and the limited energy available in the mobile nodes. Position based routing protocols have scalability in dynamic networks because they need not maintain determined routings. Most of the proposed forwarding strategies based on distance, progress and direction use only one of these metrics. We combine the traditional progress metric with the direction metric to form an improved progress definition. The route selected using the improved progress has better performance in both distance and direction, and is loop free. We use the improved progress together with a beaconless strategy to forward packets, reduce the overhead and improve the routing performance.
