Abstract
The paper presents an intelligent architecture based synergistic fuzzy timed Petri nets and a neural network for simulating product quality in a CNC machining centre. It describes how the proposed architecture can be utilised for modelling, monitoring and control of a product quality specification such as surface finish. The surface finish represents the output quality characteristic manufactured by a CNC machining centre as a result of a milling process. The neural network structure simulates and models the selected input milling parameters in order to identify the demanded quality. The synergistic approach uses two fuzzy timed Petri nets and a fuzzy timed Petri net combiner to simulate and model the actual milling parameters to identify the quality of surface finish. In addition, a fuzzy timed Petri net expert employed in order to model and simulate the final quality of surface finish as high, medium or low
