Abstract
The folded shorted L-slot cut folded feed microstrip antenna is analyzed and proposed. The reported antenna gives a bandwidth from 700 to 3600 MHz with broadside radiation pattern. In this paper, a broadband behavior of the reported shorted plate folded microstrip antenna is studied. The resonance curve plots and the surface current distributions over wide frequency range have been analyzed. It is observed that the folded configuration and L-shaped slot modifies the various higher mode resonance frequencies of the shorted patch and the broadband response is realized due to the coupling between the individual frequencies. The resonance frequency equation for the various resonant modes of shorted plate rectangular patch is also proposed. The frequencies calculated using them agree closely with the simulated frequencies.
