Abstract :
Assessing the risks to health, if any, from power-frequency magnetic fields is a multidisciplinary task. The title of this paper is not intended to imply that engineers are not interested in biology or epidemiology, nor that biologists and epidemiologists cannot understand engineering. This paper simply surveys the areas where engineers naturally contribute most to this multidisciplinary subject: the measurement of the fields, the characterisation of the fields and of exposures to them, and the consequences that follow from the size and nature of the fields
