Abstract :
Synchronization and delay are the key demands of a multimedia communication system and they all refer to time. Almost each factor in a multimedia communication system can affect synchronization and delay. It is difficult how to solve the synchronization and delay as well as balance between them, they become more difficult with the increase of terminals and MCU. This paper puts forward a synchronization and delay model based on Petri nets (SDPTN) for a multimedia communication system, and introduces the change of the states of SDPTN and its fusion rules. On the basis of SDPTN, it analyses the synchronization and delay features in point-to-point communication and multipoint communication. It also points out in a high capacity multimedia communication system that most delay reduced is less than the time per frame by boosting computer power and the delay increases linearly with increase of terminals and it is the most available method to enhance the bandwidth of MCU.
