Abstract
An imaging system has been designed, implemented and tested for automatic analysis of DNA electrophoretic films. An image of a film is acquired and digitized. The DNA bands are then recognized and contoured, allowing the computation of their integrated optical densities. The imaging system is compared to the densitometer system and is shown to be superior in terms of speed, accuracy and convenience. The imaging system also displays a greater dynamic range of optical density than the densitometer does
