Abstract :
The mobile communication is growing very fast in order to meet today world´s needs and desires. As the portable devices are growing with rapid pace and people are moving from one place to another frequently, changing their attachment points to the IP based communication networks like Wireless Local Area networks WLAN and Wireless Personal Access Networks WPAN). People carrying the mobile gadgets want to remain connected to the network all the time and want uninterrupted services. There are standardized mobility management protocols; host based and network based. These protocols are responsible for the mobility of Mobile Node (MN) with the minimum handover delay and provide secure connections (IPsec as inbuilt support in IPv6 enabled networks) with the MN´s destination. In this paper, the performance of both host based and network based mobility approaches have been evaluated. Through the simulation over Network Simulator (NS2), we have calculated different performance parameters for both categories of mobility schemes to show their performance. We found, in some cases where host based mobility schemes are not suitable (like in Wireless Sensor Networks); network based mobility schemes provide fruitful and acceptable results.
