  • Abstract
The Kyoto protocol to combat global warming has come into effect from Feb. 16, 2005. The world is going to reduce the greenhouse gases. Taiwan is not a member of the United Nations or a signatory to the protocol, but the government would contribute to ensuring sustainable development. In 2000, total greenhouse gas emissions in Taiwan were 230 million metric tons carbon equivalent. Of this total, 39 million metric tons, or 17 percent, consisted of carbon emissions from the residential and commercial sector. The emission is still increasing during the recent year and the government also takes reaction on these sectors. This paper will categorizes the Taiwan´s reduction strategy in the residential and commercial sector, including the policy, the related law, and the methodology
