Abstract :
Self-excited induction generators (SEIG) are alternately considered for electricity production in remote villages and rural areas since they have great advantages in term of low cost, less maintenance, and very robust construction features. Most of the SEIG load in the areas is normally lighting and heating. However, the SEIGs are capable of feeding the dynamic loads such as induction motors. The motor loads can be possibly found in an application of water centrifugal pump, portable air compressor. In this paper, direct-on-line starting performances of induction motor load under isolated SEIG are fully investigated with various characteristics mechanical torque loads. The study results reveal that the constant torque load causes most severe dip in the SEIG voltage due to lack of reactive power support for the motor to develop electrical torque during startup. By applying an additional paralleled-motor capacitor, faster accelerating interval of the induction motor can be obtained in relation to an improvement of SEIG voltage profile.
