Abstract :
Pearl River Delta has been one of the haze centers in China recent years. MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectrometer) ,a kind of sensor boarded on Terra and Aqua satellites, provides an effective way to monitoring the aerosol over land surface. The haze pollution in Pearl River Delta on Oct.20, 2004 was monitored by using MODIS data in this study. The study shows that the haze particles are fine aerosol particles whose diameters belongs to (0.01462, 0.02790) mum and automobile emission and power plants are the main haze sources in Pearl River Delta on Oct.20, 2004. It also shows that basin terrain and wind field near surface layer led to Jiangmen area becoming the haze sink area. The relative aerosol optical depth data of surface layer extracted from MODIS data can be used to monitoring haze in Pearl River Delta on Oct.20, 2004.
