  • Abstract
The effect of Hydroxypropyl-beta-cyclodextrin(HP-beta-CD) on the removal of Aroclorl242-one kind of PCBs(Polychlorinated biphenyls)-contaminants from soil has been investigated. The interaction of HP-beta-CD with PCBs in solution yielded the formation of a water-soluble inclusion complex, which gave an increase in PCBs solubility, PCBs can be removed effectively from soil by HP-beta-CD elution. The efficiency of washing can be increased by increasing the concentration of HP-beta-CD and the number of washing respectively. The washing efficiency of Aroclorl242 from soil is almost 0 by distilled water while 81% by 50g/L of HP-beta-CD solution after five times washing. The results obtained indicate the high extract power of HP-beta-CD toward PCBs polluted soil and potential use of HP-beta-CD for in situ remediation of PCBs or other low-polarity organic contaminated soils.
