Abstract :
A conservative and pragmatic design strategy adopted for logic and layout design of the Message Driven Processor (MDP) to minimize effort and reduce risk, is described. The MDP was produced by an academic-industry research collaboration. The effort demonstrated that a complex VLSI computer can be built successfully in an academic context
