Abstract :
This paper proposes a novel integration of a doubly- fed induction generator (DFIG) and a fuel cell. With the proposed scheme, it is possible to inject power from a DC power source like a fuel cell into the AC grid without using an additional inverter. The fuel cell is connected across the DC link of the back-to-back converters of a DFIG injecting power either into the grid or the rotor circuit. This is achieved by a low voltage DC link. Dynamic models of DFIG and PEM fuel cell are derived which are used to simulate the integrated system. Through vector control, active and reactive power generated by the DFIG is controlled. In addition, power factor correction can also be achieved. The complete system was simulated in Matlab/Simulink and an experimental setup was built to validate the proposed scheme. Simulation and experimental results are presented to support the integrated system.
