  • Abstract
Early detection of incipient fault is highly necessary for condition assessment, predictive maintenance and reliability operation of induction motors. For this task, motor current signature analysis based on frequency characteristic is well-utilized to detect indicants of permanently short circuit condition. This paper characterizes the current behavior of induction motor under temporary short circuit located in stator winding using wavelet transform. The non periodic, very short duration and high impedance short circuit currents in induction motor can be effectively identified using magnitude and energy of high frequency signal based wavelet transform.
