Abstract

The Bellcore SMDS Conformance Test System (SCoTS), which is being used to test switching system (SS) and customer premises equipment (CPE) conformance to generic requirements for switched multimegabit data services (SMDS) is described. The SCoTS hardware and software architectures are presented, and functions to test all levels of SMDS interface protocol (SIP) data unit formatting and transmit and receive procedures are described. Test configurations are described for the DS1-rate subscriber network interface (SNI) between SSs and CPE. Additional test capabilities being developed to support the phased deployment of SMDS are outlined
