Abstract :
To handle multicast traffic, the slotted unbuffered reservation protocol (SURP) is modified and its performance is analyzed. We show that our theoretical analysis is useful to investigate the effect of multicast traffic. We also show that under multicast traffic, destination conflict makes system performance degrade excessively. In addition, to alleviate the performance degradation under multicast traffic, we propose a protocol to handle multicast traffic efficiently. In the protocol, control minislots are divided into two parts and one of them is used as contention-less minislots. In addition, two procedures are added. We evaluate the performance of the proposed protocol under multicast traffic by computer simulation. As the result, we show that the proposed protocol is useful to improve the throughput and system delay performance under multicast traffic
