Abstract :
A system is described for broadband measurements of the multipath fading channel which is found in the indoor radio environment or in factories. The system employs the direct-sequence spread-spectrum technique. The transmitted wideband probe signal is an m-sequence with 511 chips phase-shift keying (PSK)-modulated onto a 1.75-GHz carrier. Due to the chip duration of 22.7 ns, the system is able to detect differences in path length ≈7 m. The correlation is performed by a SAW-convolver with 16 μs integration time, delivering measurements of excess delay up to 10 μs in the present configuration
