Abstract :
The performance of a hybrid multiplexer, in which multirate circuit-switched (synchronous mode) and packet-switched (a synchronous mode) data traffic compete for the use of N slots or channels, is analyzed. The presence of synchronous connections imposes frame-based transmission links. A previous static study has shown the effect of the synchronous configuration (i.e., both the number of slots taken by synchronous calls and their positioning) on the performance of asynchronous traffic. Efficient management procedures for the synchronous traffic access and positioning within the frame are designed here, and their effect on the performance of asynchronous traffic is shown
