Abstract :
Many existing commercial sonar systems for sub-sea application are design specific with only one application or deployment mode employing a specific array configuration. The imaging concept moves away from the traditional beamsteering and multi-beam techniques by a digital focused beamforming operation (DFB) for pixel based imaging in any co-ordinate system. The sonar itself is considered simply as a transducer array and data acquisition system integrated with general purpose digital signal processing modules. Digital focused beamforming for pixel based imaging has also been developed to take into consideration the architecture and structure of modern digital signal processors employing vector and matrix based operations
