Abstract
The Digital Audio-Visual Council (DAVIC) was established in June 1994 to promote the successful development of the emerging digital audio-visual market. A key to this market is seen as global standards for broadband digital services, ensuring compatibility and interoperability on a worldwide basis. The vision shared by members of DAVIC is that digital audio-visual systems should provide an environment where producers of content can reach the widest possible audience, with interoperability across countries, applications, systems and platforms. The first DAVIC specifications, covering technologies for broadcasting, video-on-demand, teleshopping and other interactive services, were published in December 1995
