Abstract :
This paper starts by defining remote instrumentation as a commercial application and its basic requirements. It is shown that these requirements can be met by extending the existing Web Services model. The main body of this paper focuses on how the Web Services model should be extended to handle live data sources. A proof of concept application is also developed as part of this work that shows the feasibility of the proposed solution. Finally, based on the simulation test results, it is shown that this model has performance limitations that, in turn, limit its applicability.
