  • Abstract
An advanced asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) self-healing ring is proposed. This ring system can recover rapidly from transmission line failure by connecting a preset protection virtual path (VP) that has the same termination point as the failed working VP. Another advantage is that this ring system realizes a simple recovery procedure that needs no internode negotiation. The ring network supports various services with both wide-bandwidth VP allocation and efficient VPI assignment
