Abstract :
A coherent detector for differential 16-QAM on Rayleigh fading channels is presented. The phase and amplitude reference needed for the detection are provided by an MMSE estimate of the fading process. The estimation is assisted by previous decisions and implemented by a FIR-filter. The bit error performance of the detector proposed is analysed. According to the analysis, the proposed detector exhibits only a performance degradation of 8 dB compared to an ideal coherent detector for 16-QAM at BER of 1% for a normalized Doppler frequency of 0.05.
