Abstract
Drawing on an example of a large mainframe project, some of the factors involved in introducing object orientation are described. Software engineering and life cycle issues and management issues are discussed. It is concluded that, although object-orientation is technically feasible in the hands of experts, introducing object-oriented design in a traditional software development organization requires due caution
