Abstract :
This paper presents a performance evaluation of a mobile wireless communication network. The network is comprised of five base stations each with a number of hand-sets. The base stations are of two kinds, mobile base stations and fixed base stations. The fixed base station is also connected to an ATM network in addition to other hand-sets and mobile base stations. The performance study is based on a simulation. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of buffers used in base stations. On all radio links, packets transmitted by any hand-set or base station, are dynamically defined by the radio frequency. Radio links depend on the node positions, frequencies of the transmitters and receivers, transmission power levels, interference at the receiver and other time varying model attributes. The hand-set transmitter and receiver operate at data rates of 64 kbps and use BPSK modulation. The hand-set antenna uses an isotropic pattern.
