Abstract :
The algorithm presented in the paper is aimed at achieving the greatest possible reliability improvement subject to investment cost limitation. In the first stage it seeks for the allocation of sectionalizing switches which minimizes unsupplied energy caused by network failures. In the second stage the optimization procedure defines which network sections should be insulated. Both procedures are based upon the genetic algorithm (GA), a search technique motivated by natural evolution
