Abstract :
The influence of the highly tetrahedrally bonded amorphous carbon (sp3) films on a good field emitter material (sp2 bonded) was reported in this paper. The variation of the emission threshold with change in the sp3 layer thickness was measured. Also the current Vs voltage emission characteristics before and after the deposition of a highly sp3 bonded carbon film were determined in this paper. The results show the feasibility of exactly tailoring the surface for enhanced field assisted electron emission.
