Abstract :
A bus priority based coordinated control strategy for related intersections is proposed. The benchmark intersection is determined by the tide phenomenon of traffic flow, then the cycle time and phase offset of related intersections are calculated according to green wave effect of bus traffic. Keeping cycle time invariant, aiming to minimize the total passenger delay, two delay models have been established to optimize the green splits of intersections. One is the reduced delay model of bus-priority phase for green extension, the other one is the increased delay model of non-bus-priority phase for green compression. A numerical solution algorithm based on the particle-swarm-optimization is presented for this strategy. The simulation results have shown that the control strategy reduced greatly the total passenger delay.
