  • Abstract
An evolutionary concept for broadband ISDN (B-ISDN) signaling which allows early deployment of asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) by adapting existing signaling capabilities and applications to the requirements of B-ISDN is presented. This approach should benefit network operators as well as B-ISDN equipment manufacturers. Taking into account the separation of call and connection control from the beginning makes possible a smooth evolution of B-ISDN signaling applications. This guarantees compatibility and saves investment costs
