  • Abstract
    An experimental STS-48 (2.488 Gb/s) transmission system consisting of four STS-12c channels implemented in field programmable gate array (FPGA) technology is described. This programmable technology enables the SONET interface to be reconfigured as a combination of STS-3c, STS-12c, STS-24c, or STS-48c channels. The interface to transport a high-performance parallel interface (HIPPI) channel with peak speed of 800 Mb/s over a STS-12c tributary is also described
