Abstract :
Materials and models for an experimental system designed and built for the parallel determination of various acoustic properties in microbubble-based contrast agents are discussed. The intersection of three acoustic beams determines the volume of interaction between the microbubbles and the acoustic waves. Preliminary results on ultrasonic propagation parameter measurements indicate that highly concentrated contrast agents are greatly affecting sound attenuation, velocity, and backscattering. At shelf concentrations self-absorption due to multiple scattering becomes dominant and imaging is disturbed by artifacts
