Abstract :
Experiments are carried out on two new kinds of fiber components in analog AM CATV systems. These fiber components are an erbium doped fluoride fiber amplifier (EDFFA) and an optical fiber equalizer (OFE). The EDFFA overcome composite second order (CSO) degradation caused by the combination of laser chirp with the spectral gain variation. The OFE compensates the distortions resulting from the coupling of the laser chirp with the chromatic dispersion of all the standard single mode fiber
