Abstract
The average and stochastic gradient algorithms for joint passband equalization and carrier recovery for an adaptive, phase-splitting, passband, fractionally spaced equalizer (PS-FSE) can be derived. The performance of the algorithm is demonstrated through both digital computer simulation and real-time DSP chip operation. The carrier recovery algorithm resembles phase-lock-loop (PLL) operation and its presence has virtually no effect on the convergence of the adaptive passband equalizer algorithm. Simulations show that the best convergence parameter for the equalizer and PLL algorithm can be independently established. The equalizer/PLL performance was verified using the PTT5101 Telephone Network Simulator
