Abstract :
The design of a prototype based on the Texas Instruments TMS380 local area network adapter chipset and using an IBM PC as the host is described. The instruction set, the design of the host-to-adapter interface, the architecture of the adapter, and the fiber-optic interface to the ring network are reviewed. Reliability issues, failure mode evaluation, and failure recovery strategies are discussed
