Abstract :
A method for online determination of reduced-order models (ROM) of stable linear systems is presented. The identification method utilizes the moving discrete Fourier transform (MDFT) to monitor continuously the frequency-domain profile of the system input and output. The input and output MDFTs are used to determine the effect of the system on n (for an nth-order ROM) sinusoidal components in these signals, although the plant input and output need not actually be sinusoidal. The MDFT is computationally more efficient than standard FFT algorithms, when the DFT of an evolving time signal is desired
